These people are still free to follow their own fascinating beliefs and ancient traditions, not under Chinese rule. They are extremely remote [you can only walk there, up and down mountains] and life is tough.

Love Pastels 2012, the Pastel Society UK's annual exhibition will be on display at the Mall galleries near Trafalgar Square between 14th and 25th February 2012.
Work by artist Jill Buckingham has been selected from hundreds of entries to appear alongside paintings by some of Britain's leading pastel artists - honorary members include Paula Rego and Ken Paine.

Hanging out
I met these elders hanging out in a small group
in Lo- Manthang which is the capital of Upper Mustang. Some were working and one seemed to be combing hair.

Welcome to my website, my name is Jill Buckingham and yes as you've guessed, I am a portrait painter. All of my paintings pictured are available for purchase. You may personalize your prints through my print shop. Feel free to have a look in as you can choose the sizes, paper, mats and frames that will meet your paticular feeling place and requirements.
My piece in the exhibition is called The King of Lo. This pastel is part of a series of work which I plan to exhibit to raise £10,000 for the tiny, ancient and remote Kingdom of Lo [as it was formerly known] on the Tibetan Plateau in the majestic Himalayas. Following an audience with the King in the capital Lo Manthang I pledged to help this community to prevent the loss of life in childbirth prevalent there.
